Agroecology training focuses on teaching sustainable and ecological farming practices that integrate agricultural production with natural ecosystems. In November 2024 NICE Project Bangladesh arranged two-day training sessions for Four batches of farmers in Rangpur and Dinajpur, focusing on using agroecological practices in agriculture. In Dinajpur, there were 48 participants in total, 19 of them were female farmers. In Rangpur, there were a total of 45 participants, among them female farmers were 12 in numbers.
A key benefit of such training lies in its emphasis on ecological balance. Participants learn about organic fertilizers and bio-pesticides, which help rejuvenate soil health and reduce the harmful environmental impacts of chemical inputs. Through this, farmers contribute to a healthier ecosystem while ensuring food security for future generations. Additionally, the training underscores the importance of consumer awareness, empowering participants to market their sustainably produced goods effectively and fostering an informed demand for eco-friendly products. The training’s design is deeply participatory, blending lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on sessions. Day one focuses on understanding agroecology principles, brainstorming existing practices, and collaborative group presentations, which enhance peer learning. Day two shifts to practical implementation, teaching organic farming techniques and strategies for community engagement. Through group work and scenario analysis, participants are guided on championing agroecology in their communities. A defining feature of the program is its emphasis on reflection and growth. Pre- and post-training evaluations, as well as open forums, enable participants to track their progress and refine their practices. These sessions encourage Farmers’ Hub owners to become both learners and leaders, fostering knowledge-sharing and community-based solutions. By the end of the program, participants are equipped with technical skills and the confidence to advocate for sustainable practices. They leave with actionable plans to create awareness about agroecology, brand their products, and inspire their peers to embrace eco-friendly farming. These training programs are transformative, fostering resilience, innovation, and environmental stewardship that extend far beyond the sessions, creating a ripple effect in advancing sustainable agriculture.
These sessions are not just about acquiring new techniques but also about shifting mindsets towards collaboration and long-term ecological and economic well-being. They embody a vision where farming is harmonized with nature, and farmers become stewards of a healthier planet, contributing to a brighter, sustainable future for all.
