More than 2.8 billion people worldwide cannot afford a healthy diet. Unhealthy diets are the primary cause of all types of malnutrition: undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and obesity, which are prevalent in most countries across different socio-economic classes.
On October 16th, 2024, the Busia County government, in partnership with the NICE Project in Kenya and other stakeholders, celebrated World Food Day in Nambale Sub-County, Busia, at Hannah Karanja’s farmer hub. The event was held under the theme “Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future.”
The event was organized in collaboration with key stakeholders such as PELUM, Practical Action, Farm Inputs Promotion Africa Limited (FIPS), and Biovision among other community-based organisations farmer groups and private sector players.
H.E Dr. Paul Otuoma, the Busia County Governor, graced the occasion and emphasized the importance of addressing food insecurity and malnutrition, which remain significant challenges in Busia County. There is a need to address the obstacles and opportunities related to access to an adequate, safe, and nutritious food supply.
